PUBLIC DISPLAY OF APPLICATION DOSSIER FOR AUTHORIZATION FOR FOOD, FEED, AND PROCESSING OF GENETICALLY MODIFIED MAIZE AND SOYBEAN EVENT

 

In accordance with the National Biosafety Management Agency Act 2015, requiring public display of any biosafety application, for permit to intentionally release genetically modified organisms (GMOs), for comments, the National Biosafety Management Agency (NBMA) hereby announces a twenty-one (21) day public notice on the display of an application dossier by Syngenta South Africa (pty) Ltd, for authorization of genetically modified maize 3272, MZIR 098, and Soybean SYHT0H2  for food, feed or for processing. The display is with effect from 27th November – 18th December 2019 to enable the public make input that would facilitate informed decision on the application.

 

  1. Description of the GM Maize and Soybean:
  • The genetically modified soybean was engineered for herbicide tolerance while the maize events are for insect resistance, herbicide tolerance, and for the hydrolyses of starch to soluble sugar.
