NBMA opens bids for procurement


The management of the National Biosafety Management Agency (NBMA) today, August 14th, 2017, in Abuja opened bids for the expression of interest to undertake some consultancies for the Agency.

The process which was witnessed by civil society observers, contractors and some NBMA staff saw the opening of bids for 3 categories namely; Nationwide Survey and Tracking of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs), Capacity Building, and Risk Assessment Reviews of Biosafety Applications.

The first category, Nationwide Survey and Tracking of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) had 5 bidders, the second, Capacity Building had 9 bidders while the third category, Risk Assessment Reviews of Biosafety Applications had 4 bidders.

Mr. Idris Abdul Malik, Head of Procurement, NBMA, who conducted the bid opening, stated in his remarks that, the process was in line with the Federal Government procurement policy.

“This process is open to all to show the transparency and accountability of the bidding process,”
The observers present commended NBMA for the transparent nature of the process and urged that the subsequent steps in the procurement process are equally transparent.

Sam Asuquo, the Programme Director, Civil Transparency Networks, noted that “Of all the procurement exercises that we have attended, we want to believe that NBMA has really shown transparency and accountability in their procurement exercise,”

Another observer, Usman Shehu Bido, Faithman Foundation and Trasparency Ambassadors also commended the transparent and sincere manner of the exercise.
